Curiosity & Wonder: Magic’s secret ingredients

Meet Nick Gislason, This image, shot by Frederic Auerbach, is slightly misleading as Nick doesn’t spend an awful lot of time in trees. He’s far too busy making wine as the winemaker at cult Napa winery Screaming Eagle, making fireworks as the Technical Director of Lopez Island Community Fireworks, and making remarkable beer too. He is the co-founder (along with his wife, Jennifer Angelosante) of Hanabi Lager – a grain-forward brewery based in the heart of California wine country.

On behalf of FINE+RARE’s FONDATA journal, I spent a bit of time with Nick who revealed that making wine, fireworks and beer have more in common than you might think. The resulting feature is available to read online here.
