Yes We Can Can: Allen Toussant Tribute Mix, 2017

Legendary songwriter, recording artist, arranger and producer, Allen Toussaint, passed away on 10 November 2015. Even if you're not familiar with his name, you'll almost certainly know his work.

As well as releasing great material in his own name (most notably in the 1970s), his career spanned five decades in which he wrote, recorded, arranged or produced seminal tracks for Irma Thomas, Lee Dorsey, Betty Harris, Dr John, The Meters and more. Tracks of his have been covered by the likes of The Band, Three Dog Night and Warren Zevon, to name but a few.

On Friday 10 November, 2017, at The Social in London, I celebrated Toussaint's legacy by playing a set of records written, arranged or produced (or all of the above) by Toussaint, performed by the likes of Lee Dorsey, Betty Harris, The Meters, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Solomon Burke, The Pointer Sisters – and by Toussaint himself. Together, these records go some way to showcasing the musical genius of the late, great Saint of New Orleans. R.I.P.
